debt dilemma

Is this fair?

Posted by: aulelia on: April 26, 2009

I paid (or thought I paid) my April’s CC amount on 14 April. I paid £15 online, so obviously I didn’t pay that from the cash point. I called Natwest last week to ask why it hadn’t come up online, but it said that the money had left my account. The girl said she would put a note on my account as perhaps it was just a technological error.

Natwest now have charged me interested of almost £10, which has made, in turn with me buying £10 of credit, go over my limit and now they have charged me £12 in overlimit fees.

Bear in my mind, I paid the £15 oon 14 April, as it had to be buy 17 April.

Surely, because they have not even processed my payment, the overlimit fee is not fair right? I get the interest thing but they didn’t even process my payment.

I am going to call them tomorrow. It’s my bday tomorrow. Fucking around with natwest is not my cup of tea lol.

My Plan To Minimise My Overdraft

Posted by: aulelia on: March 25, 2009

My overdraft is currently standing at -£1,994.

I have put £5 in there hence why it is below -£2,000. This is still a lot of money to pay back but judging from the days when I was over my limit and owed -£2,050, I am pleased to have got it down.

It is a student interest free overdraft until 2010 after I went to chat to the bank God willing. My plan so far is to pay £5 a month until I get a job.

My credit card is a financial imperative to be honest so I need to focus on that or I’ll get overcharged. But I really want to ideally finish off paying my overdraft by April 2010.

Wish me luck.

Vouchers

Posted by: aulelia on: March 23, 2009

On Sat, I went out to Pizza Express with a friend of mine. I know what you are thinking, I should be saving my pennies. But get this, I had a voucher!

My £10 off voucher if we spent more than £30 meant that my friend and I spent £10.35 on a pizza, drink, and a dessert.

I must say I am proud that I learning the usage and importance of hanging onto vouchers! Does anyone else use vouchers?

Loan shark who raped woman in Jail in UK

Posted by: aulelia on: March 20, 2009

Just when you think human beings must have a shred of humanity in them. You are of course proven wrong.

Loan shark who raped an impoverished customer and threatened to petrol-bomb another woman’s house has been jailed for seven years.

Paul Nicholson, 39, squeezed hundreds of thousands of pounds from working-class families.
If repayments were overdue he demanded his money by threatening debtors with the baseball bat, machete and knuckle dusters he owned.
Warrington Crown Court has heard that Nicholson, who lived in a £1 million house next to a golf course in Delamere, Cheshire, forced one woman who owed him money to perform a sex act.
He told one debtor: “Your priority is to pay me, not feed your kids.”
The former nightclub doorman was convicted last month of 18 charges which included rape, 12 counts of blackmail, lying about his criminal record, operating without a licence and assault.
His girlfriend, mother-of-one Tracey Rogers, 38, helped run his “wicked” empire from their home and she was convicted of blackmail, operating without a licence and acquiring criminal property.
The couple targeted more than 800 poor people across Widnes and Runcorn in Cheshire, charging up to 150 per cent interest on loans.

This is a very scary story. Thank goodness that this man is behind bars. How can anyone rape someone for being in debt? Very shocking.

Food

Posted by: aulelia on: March 17, 2009

The one thing I have realised that I need to fix is how I buy food. I can spend as little on £12 on a weekly shop for essentials but then, I just end up spluring during the week on sugar and more sugary things!

I am on a diet and to be honest, I feel so frustrated at how restricted I am moneywise from it. It is very frustrating.

I think I need to relax from this diet because my financial situation needs strength to deal with!

Any advice?

Keeping a cash book

Posted by: aulelia on: March 15, 2009

I have been keeping a cash book for a few months now. It is one of the only positive things I have been doing for my journey to get rid of debt.

I can see that I have the following patterns:

  • I’m an impulse buyer. I will randomly decide to buy Company magazine, as I did today (argh!)
  • I buy chocolate when I’m at university but I buy it less on the weekend.

Sometimes, I wish I could just stop spending money!

Overspending

Posted by: aulelia on: March 5, 2009

I always mean to start the week well when I budget but I ALWAYS OVERSPEND.

I can put money away in my glass jar in my warderobe but then if I get an URGE, I just overspend.

It is really frustrating me because I am in no position to overspend.

I bought a Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough Jar yesterday night. Today, I bought two magazines. I really need to fucking stop.

Like I said, I always mean well but keep fucking up. FUCK.

Saving Money

Posted by: aulelia on: February 22, 2009

I put £10 away today in my glass jar in my warderobe.

So now, I have around £39 saved.

It’s not a massive amount of money but it is something. I just kept putting the money away and now I have £39! It’s exciting.

The next things I have to do are my March debt payments for my credit card, overdraft and my ISA savings account so I will do them on Friday, the last day of February.

Good News.

My glass jar is finally seeing some silver.

I have saved £29.55 so far. I am thinking of saving for a digital camera.

I’m happy today.

finding my way…

Posted by: aulelia on: February 12, 2009

I think sometimes I can be too negative about my financial situation. Yes, I’m in debt and yes, I have fucked up money wise but I realise that now and I am changing.

I definitely have points I can improve on like sticking to my budget on a weekly basis but I have learnt the importance of buying things in bulking and learning how to save. I have £20 in my cash ISA saved after I saved £10 in January and £10 in February. I also have some money saved in a glass jar that I keep in my room as I would like to save for a digital camera maybe for summer.

I am not spending out of my means but I still need to learn how to do this budget as well. I think I am *slowly* getting there. I haven’t fully mastered it but I will. I am learning how it is important to save and put money away, I just need to stick to my weekly targets better.

My current debt is as follows:

  • Credit Card: -£405
  • Overdraft: -£1,979
