debt dilemma

Slowly does it…

Posted by: aulelia on: July 11, 2008

I think I am one of those money-people who just wants to clear debt asap. Many magazine articles suggest breaking down one’s debt slowly but surely not necessarily all at once.

So yesterday, I went to the bank and paid £5.00 into the student overdraft that I owe.

It was -£2,062 and now it is -£2,057.

This may not sound like a lot but I finally understand know why it is better to do a little often, as opposed to make things hard for yourself by putting in too much money.

I am aiming to be making frequent payments here and there between now and the end of the month.

Current debt: -£2396

I am pleased to see the number slowly going down.

[edit: I also put in £10 today to pay off my credit card. Now, the balance is -£329.11. - fingers x'd!]

I think the breaking it down slowly thing also adds in the interest factor.
The quicker you pay your debts off the less interest you pay. It’s best to try and pay off the one with the highest interest rate first.
